Travelling?

Here's what you can do to be a responsible wildlife traveller:

 

  • Question whether these organisations have animals that are behaving as they normally would in the wild.

 

  • Take the time to research wildlife activities before you book them - what do you want out of the experience and what impact will it have on the animal?

 

  • Read reviews and comments written by other travellers to gauge its authenticity - seek out qualified, professional opinions (ie; veterinarians, vet nurses, wildlife experts, etc).

 

 

                                           DON'T FORGET!

 

  • Sanctuaries that prove they are working on habitat rehabilitation and releasing animals often have the right ethical motives.

 

  • A hands on approach is sometimes detrimental to the health of wildlife, and can be linked with illegal wildlife trade, species endangerment and a life time of suffering.

 

  • Donate to reputable organisations that support the rescue, rehabilitation and conservation of wildlife. For a list of reputable organisations and charities, and information  on wildlife tourism, please visit:

 

  1. www.wildvolunteer.com - a site that promotes ethical wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centres all accross the globe.

  2. www.animalsasia.org - an organisation that fights against bear bile farming and the treatment of animals in zoos.

  3. www.savetheelephants.org  - a great site if interested in volunteering / visiting with elephants up close and personal!

  4. www.gibbonproject.org - this rehab centre aims to rescue gibbons from the illegal pet trade with the goal of releasing.

  5. www.elephant.org.au - if you are wanting to assist with elephant conservation and habitat restoration, visit this site!

  6. www.orangutan.org.au - this site is great if you want to volunteer with orangutan conservation and preventing habitat loss.

  7. www.mygreenworld.org - visit here to contribute to animal welfare, environments and ecosystems around the world.

  8. www.cee4life.org - this site is great if your keen on helping with the tigers caught up in the wildlife tourist trade.
